Biosketch
Born in Basel, Switzerland. Study of chemistry and molecular biology, doctorate Basel Univ. (1980), postdoctorate studies Univ. of California, San Francisco, USA, in developmental biology (1981-1984), member of the Faculty of Harvard Univ. School of Medicine (Molecular Physiology and Biophysics), Boston, USA (1985-1990) and of the Baylor College of Medicine (Biochemistry and Neurobiology) Houston, USA (1991-1998), Director and Scientific Member at the MPI of Experimental Endocrinology, Hanover (since 1997), Director and Scientific Member at the MPI for Biophysical Chemistry (since 2006). Numerous awards and prizes, among others the Friedrich Miescher Prize and the McKnight Neuroscience Development Award (1991) as well as the Innovation Award in Functional Genomics (2000).
Main research interests: Dynamic interplay between gene expression, brain development and architecture and behaviour.
